The first computerized draw of lots for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and Disadvantaged Group (DG) admissions for the 2025-26 academic session was held on March 5, 2025, by the Delhi Directorate of Education (DoE). The move is intended to ensure equal access to quality education for economically and socially disadvantaged children in private unaided recognized schools in Delhi.

Draw Details and Transparency Measures

The draw was held at 2:30 PM at the Conference Hall of the Directorate of Education, Old Secretariat, Delhi. To make it transparent and unbiased, the procedure was computerized and carried out in the presence of parents, media persons, DoE officers, and school officials. Education Minister Ashish Sood reaffirmed the department’s dedication to a transparent procedure by saying that extra television screens were added to the venue for better visibility of people present there.

Application Statistics and Income Eligibility

This year, the DoE received approximately 2.5 lakh applications for the EWS and DG categories. Through the draw, 38,000 students will secure admission for the upcoming academic year. Notably, the income eligibility limit for the EWS category has been raised to ₹5 lakh, expanding access to a broader segment of economically weaker families.

Not finalizing these formalities within the specified time limit can lead to the loss of the seat.

For Candidates Not Selected in the First Draw

Parents whose children did not get picked in the initial draw should hold on to hope. Depending on the availability of seats, the DoE might organize follow-up rounds of the draw. Monitoring official announcements and notifications from the DoE for further opportunities is recommended.

The computerised draw of the Delhi Directorate of Education for the admissions in the EWS and DG categories portrays the government’s efforts towards assuring equitable and transparent access to quality education by all segments of society. The parents and guardians are urged to immediately complete the required procedures in order to provide successful admission in the schools granted to their wards.
