In a significant move aimed at enhancing opportunities for aspiring Chartered Accountants, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has announced that the CA Final exams will be conducted three times a year, starting in 2025. This marks a shift from the existing biannual schedule and aligns the Final exams with the Intermediate and Foundation levels, which had already adopted the triannual format last year.

The decision was made by the 26th Council of the ICAI, which described it as a historic step to align with global best practices. The institute emphasized that increasing the frequency of the exams would provide students with greater flexibility and opportunities to achieve their professional goals.

“To align with global best practices and provide students with greater opportunities, the 26th Council of the ICAI has taken a historic decision to hold the CA Final exam three times a year. This examination was being held twice a year,” the ICAI said in an official statement.

With this change, CA aspirants will now have the chance to appear for the Final exams in January, May, and September each year. The ICAI believes that this move will ease the burden on students and enable them to plan their studies and career paths more efficiently.

The ICAI also announced modifications to the Post Qualification Course in Information Systems Audit. Previously conducted twice a year in June and December, the Assessment Test for this course will now be held three times annually, in February, June, and October. The institute stated that this revision would increase accessibility and convenience for members pursuing advanced certifications.

The transition to a triannual examination cycle is expected to have a positive impact on thousands of students and professionals in the field of accountancy. Many students and faculty members have welcomed the decision, stating that it provides greater flexibility and reduces the waiting time for reappearing in case of unsuccessful attempts.

With this move, ICAI continues to modernize its approach, ensuring that its examination structure remains competitive with international standards. The changes reaffirm the institute’s commitment to providing world-class education and professional development opportunities for aspiring Chartered Accountants in India.
